FlightMaster Aviation GPS Palm PalmOS PDA Devices
Introduction to PalmOS PDAs
FlightMaster runs on PDAs which use the PalmOS Operating System (it does not
run on Windows Mobile PDAs). There currently three models to choose from.

Palm Treo Phones
The Treo 680 (see right) is a really good choice if you're looking
for a smart phone device. It combines a mobile phone function
with the power of a PDA for a great experience. It is important that you utilize the Palm version because FlightMaster currently only runs on Palm.
One of the really nice things about the Treo is the screen - it's better
than some of the other Palms because it's brighter and easier to read in
daylight conditions. The keyboard is very useful in flight too, as
FlightMaster's map page lets you enter a waypoint identifier to select it.

The Palm Treo 755p and Palm Treo 700p are also suitable devices.

Palm's
website for more information about the Treo range.

Palm Centro
The Palm Centro has a somewhat smaller screen but we have had
reports of success running FlightMaster on this device. The Palm
Centro is very similiar to the Treo phones with a slightly smaller
screen and keyboard. It is however easier to carry around and works
well with FlightMaster.
Visit Palms website for more information about the Palm Centro.
This device is very economical and may be purchased for $99 with a plan.

Palm T|X
The Palm T|X (see right) is a large screen PDA which features built-in
wireless networking. The 320 x 480 screen can be used in landscape or portrait
mode, and FlightMaster takes advantage of both of these.
The T|X is a solid performer, although it has been on the market for a couple
of years now, but there are some great bargains to be had with this model. Many
companies offer the T|X in a GPS bundle, so you can pick one up for automotive
navigation as well as aviation.
Visit
Palm's
website for more information about the Palm T|X.
For a bargain, search google products for a refurbished unit starting around $159.
Palm E2
The Palm E2 is a smaller screen version of the T|X, and lacks that
PDA's wireless networking capabilities. However, it is a solid performer
and will easily cope with FlightMaster.

For a bargain, search google products for a refurbished unit starting around $100.
PDA mounts & Power adaptors
You'll want to secure your PDA using a proper mounting solution. There
are many to choose from, but most people find that a flexible arm & suction
cup holder offer the best solution.
RAM Mounting Systems do a comprehensive
line of mounting options specific to your PDA.
You should also consider an in-car power adaptor for charging your PDA. |
